"...In fact, the sacrament of Confirmation closely associates the Christian with the anointing of Christ, whom “God annointed with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 10:38). This anointing is recalled in the very name “Christian”, which derives from that of “Christ”, the Greek translation of the Hebrew term “messiah”, whose precise meaning is “anointed”. Christ is the Messiah, the Anointed One of God.

"Through the seal of the Spirit conferred by Confirmation, the Christian attains his full identity and becomes aware of his mission in the Church and the world. “Before this grace had been conferred on you”, St Cyril of Jerusalem writes, “you were not sufficiently worthy of this name, but were on the way to becoming Christians” (Cat. Myst., III, 4: PG 33, 1092)."

Course Description

For Whom?
Adult Candidates for Confirmation are adults who participate in Sunday Liturgy and the sacraments.  Candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation are individuals who have already received their First Eucharist.  Candidates are 21 years of age and older.  High School age candidates are a part of their local parish Confirmation process.  However, candidates who are high school graduates but not yet 21, may be part of the adult Confirmation process for sound pastoral reasons and upon recommendation by their parish priest.

Process:
  • Request an interview with the pastor.
  • For the interview, bring the following:
  1. Proof of Baptism: certified copy of baptismal certificate.  (If for some serious reason a baptismal certificate is not available, e.g., the church was destroyed, a sworn statement from a witness to the Baptism can be provided.  This statement should be signed by the pastor. Copy of First Communion certificate also required. )
  2. Two Sponsor's forms: "Sponsor Registration Form/Requirements for Sponsors" and "Confirmation Sponsor/Pastor's Statement"
  3. The Course Registration Form will be filled out at the interview
  • Register: Bring Course Registration form, a copy of Baptismal & First Eucharist certificate, and payment for course fee.
  • Upon completion of the course, candidates will fill out a Confirmand Card to take with them to the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
