CONFIRMATION 1 REQUIREMENTS 2010-11:
All Confirmation 1 requirements must be completed before a confirmation 1 candidate will be enrolled in Confirmation 2.
Workshops: Must have attended 6 of 8 LinC: 3 Events
All Service Hours Forms must be submitted (at least 20 hours)
Confirmation 1 Retreats – Can be made up during Confirmation 2 by attending the Makeup Retreat on April 13-14, 2012
Baptism Certificate First Communion Certificate (if already received) Confirmation 1 Fees and Interview

FEES: with overnight retreat: $220 ($210 if paid in full at registration)
with makeup retreat: $160 ($150 if paid in full at registration) – Must have attended both Confirmation 1 retreats
WORKSHOPS – Sundays (2:45-6:15pm) (Includes 5pm Mass)(All dates are tentative)

Grace Passes: All of the above activities are required for all Candidates. However, there are times when illness, family or other obligations can prevent a Candidate from attending a scheduled activity. Therefore, each Candidate will be given 3 Grace Passes to be used during the year. In order to use this pass, a parent must call Joe Voigt prior to the event. Once a student uses 3 passes, it is expected that he/she will be at every scheduled activity. Grace Passes cannot be used for the Sponsor/Candidate Retreat or the Confirmation Retreat.
SERVICE HOURS: Each Confirmation candidate must complete 20 hours of service work per year. Service Hour Sheets must be completed and turned in no later then April 15, 2012.

Confirmation 2 Overnight - January 27-29, 2012 – Julian, CA
Make-up: April 13-14, 2012 – Torrance, CA (Not an overnight retreat) Must have attended both year 1 retreats in 2010-11*
Sponsor/Candidate Retreat - Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2:30pm. Before the retreat, we are asking all candidates to think about where you have grown in your spiritual life two years. They will be sharing their stories with each other and celebrating God’s love for us all in this beautiful sacrament of Confirmation
Sponsor/Candidate Evening of Reflection— Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7pm in the Church. Parent(s) and/or sponsor must attend.
RITUALS & SPECIAL EVENTS:
Ritual of Continuing the Journey – September 18, 2011 at the Sun 5PM Mass*
Ritual of Enrollment – May 6, 2012 at the Sun 5PM Mass*
Homeless Ministry Service Project – Parents and Candidate chooses a Sunday to work this ministry

SUNDAY MASS ATTENDANCE: The Mass and the Eucharist are the very center of our Catholic faith. The obligation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses and to avoid unnecessary work on those days is a responsibility for all Catholics. We expect all of our Candidates to understand and accept the rule, which is based on the Third Commandment. The Confirmation classes will attend Mass together at the Sunday 5pm on the nights of their confirmation workshops. In addition, all Candidates must participate in four masses as an usher, greeter, lector or choir member.
YOUTH MINISTRY PROGRAM: Each year of Confirmation candidates will be expected to attend at least three, six overall, Youth Ministry Nights (LinC) and/or LinC events of their choosing.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: All students are required to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during both the seasons of Advent and Lent.
LETTER TO THE BISHOP: Confirmation 2 Candidates are required to write a letter to the Bishop indicating a desire to receive, and reasons for wanting to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. It should be a statement of future commitment to study the faith and to advance the cause of Christ Jesus through His Church. Specific guidelines for the letter will be discussed on April 15, 2012. The Bishop Letter is due no later then April 29, 2012.
CONFIRMATION REHEARSALS AND DATE: The date of Confirmation is Saturday, May 26, 2012. Confirmation Masses will be offered at 1oam or 1pm. Candidates will be able to pick their mass upon completion of all the Confirmation Requirements. No candidate who is missing requirements as of April 15, 2012 will be allowed to participate in any confirmation mass this year. Confirmation rehearsal will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 from 7:30pm – 9pm in the church. The rehearsal in mandatory of all candidates who wish to be confirmed in May 2012.

VIRTUS REQUIREMENT: All parents will need to complete the VIRTUS training program (child protection and safety) for their candidates’ registration to be accepted. VIRTUS is a three hour in-person training that is held throughout the year at St. Margaret Mary Parish and at other parishes in the archdiocese. You can find out more about VIRTUS and register for training on the VIRTUS website: www.virtus.org.
PARENT FORMATION: As part of our movement towards Whole Community Catechesis, St. Margaret Mary Religious Education has implemented a parent component for all of our programs. What does this mean? Now, instead of just your children receiving faith formation, you, too, will meet with other parents and share faith, grow in knowledge of church traditions and values and, most importantly, foster community. Parent Faith Formation attendance at any 5 programmed events or be an RE Catechist, an Active member of the Holy Name, SMM Knights of Columbus, Woman Society is a requirement for all parents/guardians of children in all Religious Education Program
